Agriculture Canada is a leader in plant genomics, molecular farming and molecular crop protection leading Canada's efforts in soybean genomics, with projects focused on seed quality, disease resistance and stress tolerance. The centre operates a high through-put DNA sequencing facility with full bioinformatics support. Molecular farming is the production of pharmaceutical proteins in plants. Molecular farming research is aimed at the production of immune-modulators for human disease and oral vaccines for farm animals. The centre has scientists developing methods of rapid diagnosis of plant diseases, insect pests of horticultural and field crops, and the environmental impact of agricultural activity including molecular biology techniques. |
