'Revolutionary' Banksy art exhibit set to make Canada debut in London

A globe-trotting exhibition of Banksy’s work, featuring original pieces from famed British artist, is set to open in downtown London April 18, marking its debut in Canada.
After travelling to several continents and attracting more than 1.7 million visitors, the Art of Banksy: Without Limits is coming to the former Metropolitan Department Store at 140 Dundas St., along Dundas Place.
“London is going to be able to see a hologram production of Banksy that will bring his art to life,” said D.J. Williams, an event management official. “It’s very exciting new technology to educate people about what Banksy is, who he is, and why he does what he does.”
The show will bring 100 pieces by Banksy, including 25 original prints, photos, and lithographs – such as the famed Flower Thrower graffiti on a stone – sculptures and murals.
It’s from the same organizers who brought Imagine Van Gogh: The Original Immersive Exhibition and Imagine Monet to 100 Kellogg last year. The Banksy exhibition will have experiential areas and video installations of its own, created exclusively for the tour, officials say.
Visitors can also borrow a touch of Banksy’s activist spirit by spray-painting their own T-shirt with a $2 donation to the M.V. Louise Michel organization, which rescues migrants in distress in the Mediterranean Sea.
“The exhibit is a real testament and a reward to London for believing in a new sort of revolutionary art exhibit,” Williams said. “This is just the next chapter of being able to bring new and unique attractions like this to London.”
