In this 90-minute class, we will explore the fundamentals of primary and secondary research and how they can benefit a starting business. By understanding these research methods, you will be equipped with valuable tools to gather information, make informed decisions, and gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

**The class will cover the following key topics:**

**1) Introduction to Research:**

- Definition and importance of research in business decision-making.
- Overview of primary and secondary research methods.

**2) Primary Research:**

- Definition and examples of primary research.
- Different primary research techniques, such as surveys, interviews, observations, etc.
- Steps involved in conducting primary research.

**3) Secondary Research:**

- Definition and examples of secondary research.
- Sources of secondary research data, focused on sources available through the London Public Library
- Advantages and limitations of secondary research.
- Techniques for effectively accessing and evaluating secondary research data.

**Speakers**

**David Proudfoot,** Senior Business Advisor at the London Small Business Centre

**Mark Richardson**, graduated with an M. Div. (Atlantic School of Theology) and a library science degree from Western. He has been a librarian for the local separate school board and the Small Business Centre, as well as an archivist for the Diocese of Huron. He has been a librarian at London's downtown Central Library since 2000.
