The Biotron, The University of Western Ontario’s cutting edge experimental climate change research facility, has purchased precision high efficiency thermo electronic incubators designed and developed by a small London company using leading technology. General Scientific Instruments Services Inc. (GSIS) of London, Ontario, has developed an environmentalist’s dream incubator which uses no hazardous gasses. Freon is typically used in conventional refrigeration technologies which is an environmental concern. The Peli-Can Incubator, developed by GSIS, offers outstanding operational efficiencies using up to 90% less electricity to operate. “The Biotron approached GSIS with a concern that existing incubator technologies would consume too much electricity.” say Norm Geiger, President of GSIS. “Our Peli-Can Incubator will pay for itself in power savings alone.” The Biotron will use up-to 50 Peli-Can Incubators to provide controlled environments for researchers from around the world who want to model complex ecosystems.
