Local Student-Run Shaving Startup Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Two students from Western University are looking to change the way you think about your morning shave, with a Kickstarter campaign that launched on September 16. Gareth Everard, 21, and Morgan Nordstrom, 20, have designed a razor that will halve the average man’s spending on razor cartridges, and will eliminate the cutting and burning caused by modern cartridge razors. Their solution is a re-engineered safety razor, which was the popular shaving tool in the 1900s until large shaving corporations began marketing more profitable, but lower quality cartridge and disposable razors. Unlike other razors, Rockwell Razors’ design comes in six adjustable sizes, so every man can find his perfect shave. “Cartridge and disposable razors leave behind razor burn and cuts because they’re designed as though everyone’s stubble should be shaved the same way.” says Morgan, an engineering student. “We all have unique skin and facial hair, and our razors should reflect that. The different sizes in our razor are small adjustments in the angle and gap between the blade and the plate. The smallest size is perfect for men with fine hair and shorter stubble, while size 6 is perfect for men with thick, curly facial hair. Or you may find your perfect shave somewhere in between.”
“The double-edged razor blades used in the Rockwell Razor significantly improves shave quality” says Gareth Everard. “By cutting hair at the surface of the skin, they virtually eliminate razor burn. As a bonus, the blades are a fraction of the cost of, and just as available as cartridge razors. They can be found for 15 cents each, and stay sharp much longer than cartridges or disposable razors.”
Gareth and Morgan founded Rockwell Razors earlier this year and are looking to raise awareness and funding for their pilot product through the popular crowd-funding website, Kickstarter. You can pre-order their razor or support this local venture here, and they expect their product to ship out by early December.
