The London Economic Development Corporation is holding a job fair on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Metroland Media Agriplex.
Employers in attendance are looking for a combined 2,800 employees in industries ranging from food processing to the cannabis industry.
Robert Collins, the director of workforce development for the London Economic Development Corporation, says people should bring their resumes and be ready for an interview.
“We specifically timed it from 2-7 because we realize people might have child care arrangements, they might have a job right now that isn’t quite as fulfilling or career-related as it could be and this is an opportunity to really sort of test the waters and see what’s out there.”
Collins says they have opportunities for experienced employees, or people just entering their fields.
He says there will be plenty of options for people looking for meaningful employment.
Nicholas Rolo has been out of high school for awhile now and wants to join the workforce so he can save money for college or university, but he said finding a job hasn’t been easy.
Rolo is hoping since the job fair offers a lot of face-to-face interaction, this is chance for him to show his personality and land a job.
Tanya Andes, on the other hand, just finished a career in early childhood educations as is looking for something a little different.
“I’m interested in moving into somewhere where I can use my hands, mechanical and technical knowledge and aptitude,” she said.
“It interests me so if I can make a new job out of it that would be great,” said Andes.
On the other side of the table is e-workplace training, a company that specializes in online safety training who is looking for a salesperson.
“We’re looking for employees that want to be part of a growing success,” said Allison Craddock spokesperson with the company.
“It’s a full-time positions. We want energetic people who can be somewhat assertive. As long as you’ve graduated high school it doesn’t matter how old you are.”
“It is a sales position so we’re looking for people who are outgoing,” she said,
A wide range of companies are being represented at the fair, including food processing, financing, manufacturing, and the cannabis industry.
