“They were fantastic to work with. City staff helped a lot with getting permits and meeting their specific needs. It was a great example of London stepping up,” said Andrew Dodd, manager of the Film London office.

“It will be a great way to highlight the city to all of Canada and show what London has to offer.”

The Amazing Race reached out to film production officials at Fanshawe College, which contacted Film London, a city-funded agency created to promote the city and region to the film industry.

“It shows the network we have, the contacts we were able to pull together and how we can make it work,” said Dodd.

The Amazing Race Canada features 10 teams of two players, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race across Canada with one team being eliminated after each leg.

“As the epicentre of Southwestern Ontario, it only made sense that The Amazing Race Canada would eventually touch down in the Forest City of London,” Mark Lysakowski, the show’s executive producer and showrunner, said in a statement.

“Our goal was not only to showcase the top-tier educational institutions that the city has to offer in Western University and Fanshawe College, but to also drill down into the incredible work they’re doing. The aviation students could easily go on to become the pilots that keep The Amazing Race Canada planes in the sky, and the motion capture animation challenge is an area of digital production that we (Insight Productions) are working with more and more in our programming. And who doesn’t love a dog challenge?

“This episode was a special one for us, and a pivotal one for the race. We hope that the viewers will enjoy all that London has to offer as much as we did.”

Londoners Jet Black and Dave Schram, best friends in real life, starred on the first season of The Amazing Race Canada in 2013 and were selected in an online vote to return to the show for its seventh season, which aired in 2019.
