Bringing the World to London drives the economy!

The impact on London’s economy by the London Convention Centre (LCC) was $15.5 million in 2013 as determined from delegate counts and by the Ministry of Ontario’s Tourism Regional Economic Impact Model.  The average convention delegate spends $301 per day on accommodations, transportation, food and beverage and shopping.   Since 2008 LCC hosted events have contributed $107.6 million in economic impact for London. 
“The greatest value of hosting multi-day events and conferences is the contributions they make by exposing new visitors to the city, presenting and sharing professional knowledge and enhancing the overall vibrancy of our community” states Lori Da Silva, CEO & General Manager.   “The measure by which these contributions are calculated is through the economic impact on the host community,” adds Lori Da Silva.   
In 2013 the LCC hosted 335 events which produced 107,496 delegate days.  Included in these totals was the annual conference for the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.  It was the first time in the history of this organization that the conference was hosted in London.  A key factor in the organization’s willingness to venture out of the GTA was having strong local connections.  “We were very fortunate to have the London Economic Development Team, supported by regional partners, step up to create the local host committee,” said Darrin Pollard, Director, Business Development at the LCC. Pollard continued stating, “The local connection is key to attracting new conferences to London; attracting new groups along with our returning conferences is central to the LCC’s mission.”
 
“It’s a pleasure to report our 8th year of sound operational management, continued great guest experiences and the resulting economic contribution for the community.  Competition for meetings and events continues to grow and we must remain focused on being able to compete effectively with strong community partnerships,” commented Brian Soanes, LCC Board Chair.  Mr. Soanes added, “On behalf of our Board, I want to thank the LCC team for their operational excellence and I’d also like to thank the community for their ongoing support.  Community support is essential to attracting association meetings and a great way to support the local economy,”
