City of London to offer Citizen Academy Program

The Emergency Management Citizen Academy Program is returning on October 27, 2022 to provide Londoners with the opportunity to learn firsthand more about emergency management programs from members of the City of London’s Emergency Management and Security Services.

“We launched our first Citizen Academy Program in 2019 and have hosted several sessions since then,” says Henry Klausnitzer, Manager of Emergency Management at the City of London. “We are excited to be able to talk to Londoners about emergency preparedness and how they can ensure they remain safe during an emergency.”

Participants will tour the City’s Emergency Operations Centre, learn what to include in a 72 hour emergency kit, and how to identify and respond to potential hazards. Participants leave the program with tools and information that they can share with their community, family, and friends.

“The program is particularly engaging to anyone who volunteers in the community, or is a member of a local community association, group, or organization but all Londoners are welcome,” says Klausnitzer.

The next Citizen Academy Program takes place on October 27, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Centre located at 275 Boler Road.

Registration for the Citizen Academy Program is free. Londoners can register by contacting Taylor Simmons at tsimmons@london.ca
