Community Volunteers Drive Economic Results

LONDON, ONTARIO – October 24th, 2013 - On October 23rd, 2013, the London Convention Centre celebrated the actions of 4 individuals whose passion and commitment to their respective business or organization brought an increased profile for London, and significant economic impact.

Initiated in 2000, the LCC Ambassador Awards recognize local individuals who are influential in bringing a conference or event to London.  Since 2000 the LCC Ambassador Awards have recognized 72 individuals, for their fervent support of the LCC and the city of London in bids to attract provincial, national and international conference and events.

The LCC Ambassadors have helped generate significant results for the LCC which is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this month. All totaled the LCC has welcomed 2.3 million delegates producing a total economic impact of $216 million for the City of London over the past two decades.

This year’s four London Convention Centre Ambassador Award recipients are:

Ms. Mary Lynn Stuckey for her instrumental role in persuading the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario to host their annual conference in London in November 2012.

Ms. Heather Reid for her vital support of the initiative to bring the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists to London in September 2013.

Mr. Kash Husain for volunteering as the local lead for London to host the Electrical Power and Energy Conference in October 2012.

Mr. Peter White for persuading the Board to host the Economic Developers Council of Ontario annual conference outside Toronto for the first time in the organization’s history in February 2013.

“These four community pillars championed the city of London and the LCC and therefore provided any opportunity for London to showcase its numerous resources to delegates from diverse disciplines and interests ultimately helping to maximize their organizations professional development, and their guest’s personal growth and fulfillment”, commented Lori Da Silva, General Manager LCC.
