Grand Theatre celebrating 50th season with virtual event

London's Grand Theatre isn't letting the pandemic stop the celebration of its 50th season.

On Thursday, the Grand Theatre will be live-streaming a free virtual "un-opening" night, which will feature several talented artists and a sneak peek into the progress of the theatre's $9 million upgrades. The Grand has been undergoing renovations to the theatre’s lobbies, production areas, rehearsal spaces, and dressing rooms.

"Our entire company [misses] seeing the faces of our theatre patrons so much. Theatre is all about connection, creativity, story-telling, and inspiration. We are so happy that we will be able to connect, at least virtually, with everyone on Thursday and bring a little something for everyone to this Un-Opening celebration,” said Executive Director Deb Harvey.

Performers will include Tess Benger, Alexis Gordon accompanied by London artist Matthew Atkins, Colleen Dauncey, Akiva Romer-Segal, and Matt Murray. Award-winning director/choreographer Cameron Carver will also be attending remotely from the UK.

The event, which will be hosted by Harvey and Artistic Director Dennis Garnhum, will broadcast live on Thursday at 7 p.m. It will also be made available for two weeks following the event for those unable to join on Thursday.

Details on how to register to view the "Un-Opening" can be found on the Grand’s website or by calling the box office at 519-672-8800.
