“We really want to create an amazing art and culture centre at 100 Kellogg,” event director Angela Rivard said.

“No one’s ever done anything like this in the city and we want to do this for the city, keep it light-hearted and fun and support our art and culture community.”

Artists can submit up to three works in any medium. It costs $20 for the first entry and $10 for the others. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28.

Works by 100 artists will be selected from the submissions and an expert panel will choose one winner. The second $100,000 prize recipient will be decided through an online public vote.

The 100 selected pieces will be on display from May 28 until Sept. 8. Guide books will be available on site for the public.

Artist and Beal secondary school teacher Jeff Heene said he was surprised and delighted by the competition.

“That’s intense – a global, open competition?” he said.

“From a Londoner’s standpoint, we could get some really cool art from big names to see because that’s enough prize money to draw submissions from them, but it’s also a really great opportunity for local artists, amateurs and professionals.

“It’s certainly a great opportunity for someone to cash in and make a name for themselves.”

100 Kellogg Lane — home to bars, restaurants, markets, community events and, soon, the children’s museum —  announced earlier this year it will host Imagine Van Gogh in the fall that will features large projections of artwork on screens and walls.
