About London & Area Works

In 2014, several communication leaders and conversations came together to address the need to better inform job seekers about the range of job opportunities available in our region. The City of London, London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), CTV London, Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board, Employment Sector Council and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities convened to create a campaign to illustrate the various sectors and opportunities. After much deliberation, the community collaboration developed London & Area Works, which lives in many forms and acts as a vehicle for connecting job seekers to opportunities in the London region.

London & Area Works began as an online portal that lives on CTV London’s home page. The website was launched in 2015 and provides job seekers with advice and tips, job opportunities available, frequently asked questions about jobs in the London area for both job seekers and employers, and additional resources on training workshops and helpful hints on getting employed. There is a dedicated featured job sector section which links to each company’s website and available positions. Part of this online resource includes weekly video segments that showcase London companies that are hiring and looking for talent. To date, CTV London has aired 3 series of videos which run for approximately 13 weeks. The 4th series started back up on September 12, 2016 - check it out Monday night's at 6pm on CTV News.

The series was a chance to put a positive spin on the London region’s job market and spark positive conversation about working and getting hired in the area. Additionally, it gave community influencers and supporters the opportunity to come together and collaborate at the level of media, not-for-profit and government combined, in order to create a unique project that provides a wealth of resources all in one place.
