Londoners invited to grand opening of East Lions Community Centre and Park

On Saturday, May 14, the City of London invites Londoners to the grand opening of the East Lions Community Centre and East Lions Park.

Beginning at 11 a.m., this exciting day will include a fundraiser barbeque, activities and games, art displays, a ceremony and so much more.

The following activities will be offered during the grand opening:

Fundraiser barbeque hosted by London East Lions Club

The London East Lions Club will be serving food on the barbeque as well as a selection of drinks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in East Lions Park. Donations to the London East Lions Club will be encouraged as they support community projects and programs in East London including a free monthly swim at the East Lions Community Centre.

Outdoor giant games for the entire family

Outdoor giant games including Jenga, chess, checkers and dominos will be available in the East Lions Park for all to enjoy. Giant games take the familiarity of all the classic board games and blow them up into a fresh new format for all ages and experience levels.

Take part in the ceremony and Welcome Hands public art unveiling

At 11:30 a.m., Deputy Mayor Josh Morgan, Councillor Shawn Lewis and City staff will be joined by community partners and East London residents for the official ceremony of the East Lions Community Centre and Park, set to take place near the Welcome Hands public art located outside the community centre on the concrete plaza. The City will also unveil the Welcome Hands public art during the ceremony.

“The grand opening was postponed due to public health recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Deputy Mayor Josh Morgan. “The wait has only increased our excitement to share this new space with the community, making this a much-anticipated event.”

Please note that limited parking will be available at the East Lions Community Centre on a first-come, first-serve basis. We encourage those who plan on attending to find alternate modes of transportation.
