Low tech junk hauler launches sexy new technology

Monday, November 3, 2003 - 00:00

1-800-GOT-JUNK? has launched two hi-tech systems to help allow it to increasingly rapidly deploy its low-tech business model: online booking and web-enabled cell phone dispatching.

This is the first time in history that homeowners and businesses can book their own junk removal appointment without any human interaction. This booking system is unique, not just to the junk hauling industry, but to dispatching in general.

Picture someone entering all of their contact information and chosen pick-up time at Once the client has completed their booking, the information travels through 1-800-GOT-JUNK?’s CRM intranet system, (JunkNet), and is automatically dispatched to the web-enabled cell phone of the nearest junk truck. Once the information is received, the truck staff hit either ‘accept’ or ‘reject’ on the phone. If accepted the truck staff call the client fifteen minutes prior to arriving onsite. This system has never been offered before, especially in the notoriously low-tech junk hauling industry.

1-800-GOT-JUNK? is also celebrating their feature story in both Fortune and FSB (Fortune Small Business) Magazines. The junk removal franchisor was profiled on October 27th for its growth from twenty-three to seventy-four franchises in less than one year, and for its hyper-growth leadership with people, systems and technology.

1-800-GOT-JUNK? is a full service junk removal company that takes anything that two people can lift and that is not environmentally hazardous. Up to 60% of the junk is either recycled or donated to local charities. The company was founded in 1989 by CEO Brian Scudamore. After dropping out of high school, he used his $700 in savings and started hauling junk. For 2003, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is on track do $17.5 million in revenue system wide.
