Why is LEDC attracting talent from outside of the region?

To attract new and growing companies to London and ensure the city's long-term economic resilience, it’s vital to build a versatile and dynamic workforce. While London boasts a strong talent pool, businesses today—especially in a globally competitive market—demand a diverse range of skills and experiences. To meet these evolving needs and continue driving economic growth, we must strategically expand our talent search beyond London.

What about Londoners looking for work?

Supporting local talent remains a top priority for the LEDC, but we recognize that no single city has all the specialized skills needed for a rapidly growing economy. Recruiting from outside of London doesn’t mean sidelining Londoners—it strengthens our workforce by bringing in diverse skills that attract new industries and create more jobs for everyone. A broader, more diverse talent pool will drive economic development, foster new industries, and ultimately lead to greater opportunities for local residents.

To make London a thriving center of innovation and growth, we need to cast a wider net. Including former Londoners, university graduates, and career-changers—will help us build a workforce capable of supporting emerging industries, expanding our economy, and creating jobs that benefit both current residents and new recruits. It’s a crucial step toward ensuring London’s status as a city of opportunity.

How is LEDC supporting the local workforce?

The LEDC is deeply committed to supporting London’s local workforce by connecting job seekers with employers. We manage three job boards that connect talent with diverse career opportunities across industries, and we host two of the region’s largest career fairs, attracting top employers seeking local talent. While we’re not an employment agency, we work closely with business to understand their workforce needs, and help them connect with skilled talent that drives their growth.

We work with employers, educational institutions, government and other community stakeholders to understand the talent gaps in our key sectors and to ensure that London’s workforce is prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.

LEDC Sponsorship Guidelines – Q&A

Q: Can LEDC sponsor my event?

Maybe. But let’s be clear — LEDC is not a funding agency. We’re a small not-for-profit with a big job: growing London’s economy and putting our city on the map. Our sponsorship dollars are rare, so they have to hit the mark.

Q: What do you actually sponsor?

We back things that move the economic needle — especially in the following priority areas:

  • Food Processing
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Film
  • Life Sciences
  • Attracting talent and supporting companies grow
  • Putting London on the map for business investment
We also like to give new ideas a kickstart — helping them get noticed so other sponsors line up next time. (Translation: one-and-done isn’t personal, it’s policy.)

Q: What’s cool / not cool?

Cool

  • A life sciences showcase with global investors.
  • A workforce training initiative that helps local employers hire.
  • A new film industry event putting London talent on screen.
  • A fresh business idea that needs a push to take off.
  • Opportunities where LEDC is a true partner — not just a logo slapped on the program.

Not Cool

  • Events already paid for with City of London tax dollars.
  • Charity galas, golf tournaments, or socials (we’ll clap for you, but we won’t cut a cheque).
  • “General funding” asks — that’s not our lane.
  • Assuming if we sponsor once, we’ll sponsor forever

Our Philosophy: Partnerships, Not Logos

We don’t sponsor for visibility alone. We sponsor when we can collaborate, add value, and amplify together.
If you just want a cheque → probably not us.
If you want LEDC at the table, bringing our brand, networks, and amplification → now we’re talking.

Q: What if you say no?

We still help. LEDC regularly promotes business and community events for free on our website, newsletter, and social media. You get visibility, even if we don’t open the wallet.

Q: How do I ask?

Send us a proposal at least 8 weeks before your event with:

  • What it is and why it matters.
  • Who’s coming (audience + numbers).
  • How it supports London’s business community.
  • What recognition LEDC gets in return.
  • How LEDC can be a partner in success, not just a payee.
