Coming Together for Diabetes

Dates

-

Join us for Coming Together for Diabetes on November 4, 2021. The virtual event will be emceed and moderated by Jeff Macoun, President and Chief Operating Officer, Canada | Canada Life and features keynote speaker Kaleb Dahlgren. The former Humboldt Broncos hockey player, diabetes advocate and recent author will share how living with diabetes gave him the resilience to overcome unspeakable tragedy.

Fittingly, November is Diabetes Awareness Month and 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, considered one of Canada's greatest contributions to medical research, an innovation that occurred right here in London.

Proceeds from Coming Together for Diabetes will support diabetes care and research at St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

Featuring Kaleb Dahlgren

Kaleb Dahlgren is a survivor of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash who has been living with type 1 diabetes since he turned 4 years old. Despite the daily challenges of managing his glucose levels, he refused to let the disease hold him back from chasing his lifelong dream of playing hockey.

He credits the resiliency and positive attitude gained through life with diabetes with helping him recover from the tragic bus crash. He endured multiple injuries including a traumatic brain injury which required a long hospital stay and rehabilitation journey.

He is the author of the bestselling memoir Crossroads: My Story of Tragedy and Resilience as a Humboldt Bronco, chronicling his experience of persevering and maintaining hope and strength in the wake of life-altering obstacles.
