Module 1 - Virtual

Workshop: Introduction to Intercultural Competency

Date: April 17, 2023

Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm

The Introduction to Intercultural Competency Module 1 virtual workshop will explore the dimensions of culture, the stages of intercultural learning, and the foundational concepts.

Here is an overview of the module:

  • Defining culture
  • Intercultural competency
  • Values and interpretations
  • Generalizations and stereotypes
  • Unconscious bias, intersectionality and microaggressions
     

Module 2 - Virtual

Workshop: Intercultural Communication

Date: May 3, 2023

Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm

The Intercultural Communication virtual workshop will explore the types of communication including verbal and nonverbal, how to effectively engage in cross-cultural situations, and communication patterns, processes, and codes.

Here is an overview of the module:

  • Defining intercultural communication
  • High vs low context communication
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Slang or jargon

 

Module 3 - Virtual

Workshop: The Power Dynamics and Systemic Discrimination

Date: May 17, 2023

Time: 11:30am - 1:00pm

The Power Dynamics and Systemic Discrimination virtual workshop will explore the power imbalances and the barriers that exist within a society that undermine opportunities.

Here is an overview of the module:

  • Power and privilege
  • Cultural orientations
  • Workplace and discrimination
     

Module 4 - In-Person

Workshop: Inclusive Best Practices

Date: May 31, 2023

Time: 8:30am - 10:30am (Doors open at 8:00am)

The Inclusive Best Practices in-person workshop will explore best practice standards when developing job postings, how to conduct interviews, how to establish a company culture, and more.

Here is an overview of the module:

  • Job postings
  • Interviewing
  • Onboarding and integration
  • Workplace retention
  • Offboarding
     

The Intercultural Competency Workshop modules 1-4 (virtual/in-person) workshop is presented by Will Imploy, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, and the Community Attraction & Promotion division of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. When you register and attend all 4 modules you will receive a certificate of completion.

The Inclusive Best Practices module 4 in-person workshop will be held on May 31 from 8:30am - 10:30pm at Studio One - Chatham Cultural Centre at 75 William Street N, Chatham Ontario.
