Then our keynote speaker - Bernard (Bernie) Derible is the Deputy Minister and Commissioner of Emergency Management Ontario (EMO). He has 35+ years of service as a global nation builder across domestic and international challenges and served as a senior military officer for UN and NATO operations.
His past roles have included responsibility for the federal government emergency response to the Ontario Ice storm - Ottawa Region (1998); as acting Base Commander of Canadian Forces Base Petawawa; implementing the Syria refugee program; and also as Senior Advisor on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution task force which rolled out over 30 million vaccines, placing Ontario in the top three per capita in the world for shots.
Since April 2022, Deputy Bernie has led EMO through a dynamic transformation that has resulted in nation leading initiatives and capabilities to ensure that Ontario is Safe, Practiced and Prepared.
