Airshow London announces donation of $30,000 to local charities and organizations

FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS of hosting Canada’s only air show in 2020 and the first drive-in format, Airshow London has announced it is giving back $30,000 to community organizations that align with its mission.

As a non-profit organization, in addition to running the event, Airshow London’s mission includes raising funds for local charities and post-secondary institutions by promoting, celebrating and creating awareness of aviation power, advances in technology and military heritage.

This year, a total of $30,000 in donations go to four organizations that have a connection to Airshow London. Recipient Organizations include:

• Children’s Health Foundation

• Veterans Care Program, St. Joseph’s Parkwood Institute

• Fanshawe College Foundation, Bursary for Women in Norton Wolf School of Aviation Technology

• London International Airport Plane Spotting Park (Park Enhancements)

“Airshow London has been a generous supporter of Children’s Health Foundation for many years. We are grateful for their ingenuity and creativity to ensure the show went on this year, and funds were still raised for charities in our community, including Children’s Hospital,” said Scott Fortnum, president and CEO, Children’s Health Foundation, in a released statement. “This donation means a lot to us, this year in particular.”

“Airshow London is a special event that our veterans who reside at Parkwood Institute look forward to attending every year,” added Heather Tales, director, Veterans Care Program. “This generous gift means a lot to our veterans and will support the care and comfort of the residents in our program.”

“It goes without saying that SkyDrive could not have been as great of a success without the outstanding support of our partners and community” says Jim Graham, chair, Airshow London. “Now it is our turn to support our community, as we make it our mission to give back.”

Beginning November 16, organizers will publish the Airshow London’s Mission to Give, a one-week social media campaign highlighting the recipient organizations.

As a result of Covid-19 restrictions, Airshow London pivoted to a drive-in format for its September 12 and 13 event, creating Canada’s first socially responsible and physically distant air show. The event offered more than 2,200 private parking spots and welcomed approximately 10,000 guests per day to watch the aerial display. According to a survey conducted by the organization, 88 per cent of attendees enjoyed the drive-in format very much and 92 per cent would attend a drive-in format again in 2021.
