Cargill and Ronald McDonald House® tee up for another record year

WINNIPEG – The links at the Highland Country Club golf course in London were packed last week as golfers set out for a day of fun and sport, all in support of Canada’s 14 Ronald McDonald Houses.  This is the 9th year that has Cargill hosted the major fundraising event, this year being the most successful one yet.

“All 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country as well as Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) Canada are ‘richer’ because of Cargill’s generosity and hard work,” said Margaret Anderson, Executive Director for Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario.  “The families whom we have the ability to serve will be better supported because of these funds raised.”

Cargill’s Value Added Meat- Foodservice team in London wasn’t alone in their efforts that made this years’ fundraising event the most successful one to date.  Joined by Cargill colleagues across the Ontario region as well as Chicago, McDonald’s® Canada partners and fellow suppliers, $352, 615 was the final tally raised- including funding dollars from Cargill’s corporate headquarters in Minnesota.

“This is an event our whole team gets involved in and looks forward to every July,” said Derek Schoonbaert, General Manager, Cargill Value Added Meats- Foodservice.  “Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for our business to support a cause that we care deeply about, it’s also a chance for the community to come together in bettering the lives of those who are in need of a little extra support during a very difficult time in their lives. We are incredibly proud of everyone’s dedication to ensuring the success of this event and we are so pleased to call Ronald McDonald House our community partner of choice.”

In addition to the annual golf tournament held in London for the past few years Cargill has been hosting a fundraising hockey tournament in Spruce Grove, Alberta.  Cargill’s employee-led Cargill Cares Councils also get involved with numerous volunteer efforts in support of their local Houses, including preparing and serving monthly dinners for the residents and clean-up days.
