Closing the Primary Care Gap in London: Real Momentum, Real Access

Access to a family doctor remains one of the most pressing issues in our community, but there is real momentum building in London.

At TMC+ Clinics, a focused recruitment strategy is delivering results. By building strong relationships with recruiters in the United Kingdom, where many primary care physicians are undervalued and underpaid, the clinic has successfully attracted experienced doctors to London and is helping expand access to care.

The impact is already significant:

  • 2025: 6 new physicians joined, connecting approximately 10,000 patients
  • 2026 (to date): 4 additional physicians have joined, attaching roughly 6,000 patients
  • April to September 2026: An additional 11 physicians are expected to join

This means tens of thousands of Londoners will have the opportunity to connect with a family doctor.

This progress is also being supported by local recruitment leadership. Chantelle (last name and title) has been actively working to bring new physicians to London and has welcomed five new doctors since November. There is strong momentum building, with continued efforts focused on connecting more residents to care and supporting physicians as they establish their practices in the community.

Awareness remains a key challenge. Many people who need a doctor do not realize that there are current opportunities to get connected.

TMC+ Clinics is actively accepting new patients and has created a streamlined intake process. Patients can apply online at
www.thompsonmedical.ca (click “Apply Now”) or visit in person at 130 Thompson Road. The clinic is able to attach patients quickly, helping hundreds of individuals connect to care each week.

At the same time, residents are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect, which helps match individuals with providers accepting new patients across the region.

With coordinated efforts across clinics, recruiters, and the broader system, London is making meaningful progress. The opportunity now is to ensure residents know where to go and how to take advantage of it.
