#CombatCOVID: Mind over Matter

London companies are nimble and rising to the challenge, and the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) is putting a spotlight on some of the many success stories arising out of COVID-19.

In the face of these unprecedented times, we’re seeing many businesses shifting gears to support COVID relief efforts. From pivoting production to manufacturing or donating essential products, London companies are helping to #CombatCOVID.

With efforts like these on all fronts – from all levels of government, support organizations, businesses, and the community – London will remain resilient through this challenging time.

Thank you to many companies and individuals that have stepped up to help wherever they can. How can you help? Share these stories widely or support these local businesses in any way that you can.

Mind over Matter

Recognizing that this is an unprecedented time, local businesses have developed resources to help people feel supported, connected, and together at a distance.

Calling it their list of sanity savers, SlyFox Digital Marketing has compiled a list of activities, mental health and financial resources, and local business delivery / pick up to help people work through the challenges of self-isolation.

A number of mental health resources at the national level have also recently launched:

For many, Netflix has provided a source of entertainment to keep people busy and entertained during COVID-19. If you’re looking for a film with a London, Ontario connection, add the movie The Willoughbys to your list, which debuted on Netflix April 22. The movie was produced by Bron Studios in British Columbia. Aaron Gilbert, who founded Bron, and Kris Pearn, who directed The Willoughbys, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, and Open Season among others, are both from London. This new film features voice actors Will Forte, Maya Rudolph and Ricky Gervais.

In the business community, RH Accelerator has launched RHA Online – a free service for the founder community to support companies with responding to the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. You can connect with other founders, share ideas and gather feedback, access mentors and resources, and watch relevant webinars to help you navigate through these evolving times.

While there are many ways to stay connected virtually while social distancing, it’s clear there may still be impacts on mental health felt across the globe. Driven to understand what these impacts may be and how the government can support those in need, Pulse InfoFrame in London is running an online study – called the healthie™ Global Pandemic Mental Health Assessment - to learn how COVID-19 is affecting communities mentally and emotionally.

The conclusions drawn from this study will help protect the long-term health of our communities and enable leaders to react quickly and establish resources to address mental health impacts. Share your insights with this local health research leader so they can generate solutions for those in need.
