London City Council today announced the hiring of Sandra Datars Bere as new City Manager, effective May 6, 2024.
“I am thrilled that Sandra has chosen to rejoin the City of London,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “I know that her experience and leadership will ensure that our organization and community continue to move forward towards our goals of becoming an even more vibrant, caring, and resilient city. Her experience in the health and homelessness sector will be especially invaluable in the work we are doing as a community.”
Ms. Datars Bere has over two decades of municipal public sector experience, including seven years with the City of London where she led the housing and social services portfolio from 2013 to 2020. In 2020, she took on a role as Chief Administrative Officer for the County of Bruce and currently serves as City Manager for the City of St. Thomas.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been chosen as the new City Manager for the City of London,” said Ms. Datars Bere. “Returning to assume this important role in London, which is my home community, fills me with immense pride and excitement. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to work alongside the talented team at the City of London, along with countless community leaders. Together, we will continue a journey of transformation and progress, ensuring that London remains a place where all individuals and families can thrive."
The hire comes following an extensive national search, which began in late 2023 when current City Manager Lynne Livingstone announced her retirement.
“I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Lynne Livingstone for her exceptional leadership and profound caring over her time as City Manager,” continued Mayor Morgan. “The legacy she leaves behind is truly unmatched, and her example is one that will continue to guide many, including myself, going forward.”
Ms. Livingstone will retire from her position on March 15, 2024
