FAIR HIRING CLIMATE EXPECTED FOR LONDON

(London, ON, June 11, 2013) – London area employers expect a fair hiring climate for the third quarter of 2013, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

“Survey data reveals that 13 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (July to September), while zero per cent anticipate cutbacks,” stated Michael Johnson of Manpower’s London office. “Another 87 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.”

“With seasonal variations removed from the data, London’s third quarter Net Employment Outlook of five per cent is a slight drop of four percentage points when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Johnson. “It is also a five per cent point decrease from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a mild hiring pace for the upcoming months.”

“Overall, a moderate national hiring climate is projected in the coming quarter,” said Byrne Luft, Vice President of Operations for Manpower Canada. “While most industries are expected to see little change over the previous quarter, employers in the Transportation & Public Utilities and Construction sectors anticipate the strongest gains, especially in Western Canada. This is due in part to continued government infrastructure spending, in accordance with Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2013.”
