Fanshawe College Announces New Senior Vice President Academic

Fanshawe College’s President Peter Devlin today announced the appointment of Gary Lima as Fanshawe’s Senior Vice President Academic, effective April 22, 2014.
“Gary Lima’s experience and energy are exactly the fit for this position and I am excited to work with him in his new role,” says Peter Devlin. “He is highly respected by his peers and colleagues and is passionate about Fanshawe and our future.”
Lima has over 17 years of experience as an educator and he has been Acting Vice President Academic since January 2014. He has been with Fanshawe since 2011, including three years as the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Media and Design. Lima’s achievements at Fanshawe include helping lead the establishment of the Centre for Digital and Performance Arts in downtown London; leading the development of Fanshawe’s Strategic Mandate Agreement with the Government of Ontario; launching Fanshawe’s English Language Institute; and co-chairing the Student Self Service/Online Registration project.
Prior to Fanshawe, Lima spent 14 years in progressively senior roles at Humber College. During this tenure, he elevated the status of Humber’s Digital Imaging Training Centre gaining national acclaim and being recognized as Humber’s first Centre of Excellence. Lima is also the recipient of the first Community Service award granted by former Humber College President John Davies, acknowledging his work in establishing a Digital Media Community Centre in Rexdale.
Lima is currently a PhD candidate and has begun work on his final thesis. His research is focused on enhancing leadership competencies in the role of the Associate Dean/Chair in Ontario colleges. He also holds an MA in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University as well as numerous other academic credentials and industry certifications.
“My 17 plus years of progressive leadership experience in post-secondary institutions has prepared me well to take on this exciting new challenge,” says Gary Lima. “Fanshawe and the entire Ontario college system are currently experiencing unprecedented change and I look forward to helping guide our efforts to meet the challenges of the future.”
This appointment follows a nation-wide search process involving an advisory committee that assisted the President with the search and hiring. Lima replaces Dr. Lane Trotter, who left Fanshawe in January 2014 to become President of Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
