Hire One: Employment Program Launched

(London, ON) – , the City of London, LEDC and Employment Sector Council of London Middlesex, Human Resource Professional London and District, Links 2 Work, and the London Public Library have come together to launch “HIRE ONE”, a campaign to promote and celebrate local job growth.

HIRE ONE will provide encouragement and resources to local businesses that will allow them to create the necessary capacity to hire one additional employee.   These resources will include information about available Government Programs, training programs to prepare individuals to move easily into new job situations and enable employers to connect with a wide array of local services.   “Establishing new job opportunities is always a priority for London council.” says Mayor Joe Fontana.  “Small and medium sized business is the backbone of our economy and we appreciate their efforts to expand and prosper.”

Presented to the Investment and Prosperity Committee of Council by Councilor Paul Hubert and subsequently recommended to and approved by London City Council, HIRE ONE celebrates and supports job growth in London.  “HIRE ONE is a challenge to small and medium size businesses to grow”, explains Councilor Hubert.  “Thousands of employers have the opportunity to grow if they are given the right tools.  This program will connect them with support and information to grow, and celebrate their success.”

Soft launching September 18th, at Forest City Fire Protection, a medium enterprise founded by three men facing unemployment that has grown to over 200 employees, the HIRE ONE website www.hireonelondon.ca  will be a call to action for companies that have hired, who are looking to hire, and for individuals looking for a job.   The site was built in conjunction with the city’s main employment agencies to aggregate relevant information and primarily serves as a portal with specific information related to hiring or entering the workforce.
