The downtown headquarters for Info-Tech Research Group is the big winner in the city’s 2021 urban design awards.

The revamped heritage buildings at the southwest corner of Ridout and King streets took home the prize in the adaptive reuse or rehabilitation category, as well as the people’s choice award, the city announced Tuesday.

The design for the Info-Tech campus of commercial heritage buildings was done by Nicholson Sheffield Architects Inc. in collaboration with Arthur Lierman Landscape Architecture.

The complex was cited as an example of “responsible heritage architectural practices.”

Info-Tech is an information-technology research and advisory company.

Other winners announced during a teleconference ceremony include the West 5 office building in the buildings category, the north branch connection of the Thames Valley Parkway in the public spaces and landscapes category, and the Forest City Farm in the student people’s choice category.

Honourable mentions went to the Huron University College academic building in the buildings category and the Mosaic House in the small-scale residential category.

“While we weren’t able to celebrate this year’s awards in person, this didn’t affect the quality of entries or enthusiasm from our talented pool of developers, architects, landscape architects, planners and designers in London,” said Britt O’Hagan, the city’s manager of community planning, urban design and heritage.

Given out every two years, the awards showcase urban planning, original design, and ground-breaking concepts. Criteria for winning included excellence, innovation, and visionary thinking.
