Larry MacKinnon to lead LEDC’s technology portfolio

The London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) today announced Larry MacKinnon as Director, Business Development, Technology.

Most recently, Larry has been the Manager of Business Growth & Retention at the LEDC. This new appointment follows closely on the heels of the LEDC’s release of the London Technology Audit. Led by MacKinnon, the audit provides a comprehensive overview of the city’s research strengths, the number of companies and related employment in the technology sector as well as an analysis of the sectors strengths and opportunities.

As Director, Business Development, Technology, Larry will be responsible for the attraction of new investment and the growth and development of existing companies in the information technology and other technology related industries. He will also work closely with partner organizations working in this sector. The life sciences sector will remain as a separate portfolio headed by Lesley Cornelius.

During his work on the audit, Larry has built relationships with local companies, explored partnership opportunities with educational institutions and brought London to the attention of provincial and federal counterparts working in technology-related investment.

A Certified Economic Developer through the International Economic Development Council, Larry has a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, a diploma in Political Science, and BA in Economics, all obtained at The University of Western Ontario. He has been a Western and Fanshawe College instructor in Entrepreneurship and Marketing Research Methods, and has operated his own company providing competitive intelligence and market research services to the business community.

Larry is a member of the board of the London Small Business Centre, and participates on the London Region Manufacturing Council, the Canada Youth Business Foundation, and the Fanshawe College Continuing Education (Business & Management), IT and Technology Advisory Committees.

The LEDC is a public/private partnership between the City of London and the private sector. Contracted by the city to provide economic development services, the LEDC’s goal is to attract new investments and to assist existing companies grow their investments in our community.
