London Arts Council Announces Leadership Transition

Following an 18-year tenure, Andrea Hibbert retires.

LONDON, ON. April 16, 2021 – The London Arts Council Board of Directors and staff, invite the community to join us in congratulating Andrea Hibbert, Executive Director, as she retires from her role.

Since 2003, Hibbert has successfully guided the London Arts Council across several periods of growth and change, and has amplified the organization’s reach regionally, nationally and internationally. Her leadership has helped to advance the role of the arts as an economic driver for regional prosperity along with championing diplomatic cross-sector collaboration, while promoting equity and inclusion.

The organization is currently the second largest arts council in the province of Ontario, and a leader in economic and cultural creation support for artists, creators and arts organizations. Through Hibbert’s leadership, the London Arts Council is well-positioned for succession and looks forward to continuing to support the arts sector under new leadership.

“Andrea has been a strong advocate for the local arts community across her tenure and has navigated the organization through unprecedented challenges over the past year,” said Allison Price, President of the London Arts Council Board of Directors. “The London Arts Council remains poised to continue supporting, funding, and offering guidance in a meaningful way for the arts sector in our city. We continue to adapt as each challenge presents itself, and through this next evolution, will persevere in finding new ways to bring hope and inspiration to London artists.”

In the near future, the Board of Directors will begin the search for their next Executive Director. Both internal and external candidates will be considered once the process begins.

“Leading the London Arts Council for the last 18 years has given me the opportunity to support and nurture the arts in my city and beyond, I was raised by artists and the arts is a way of life for us”, said Hibbert. “As the LAC embarks on this transition, I am both excited for, and committed to a dynamic future for our organization.”

Hibbert will remain in her role as Executive Director to facilitate a smooth transition through to August 2021 and will continue to be a strong supporter of the London Arts Council and broader arts community.
