Selectpath Benefits & Financial earned praise on Profit Magazine's coveted "Profit 100" list of Canada's fastest growing companies for 2002.
The London company's revenue growth rate of 1020% from 1996 to 2001 grabbed 64th position on the list. Over the same period, company employees grew from three to 16 and last year's revenue surpassed $1.5 million.
The company combines group benefits and financial planning services to companies, their employees, and individual investors. Originally, Selectpath was known as Select Benefit Services and the company's focus was limited to group services. In 1999, a decision to merge with Sabourin Financial occurred when owners from both companies explored market opportunity.
"It became clear to us that merging the two companies would provide clients with a unique advantage for their employees," says Gord Hart, cofounder of Selectpath. "When we design a company's benefits program, individual employees often take advantage of accessing professional investment advice from us. There is a level of familiarity and trust."
Selectpath's clients' portfolios include benefit and investment products from some of the largest financial and insurance companies in Canada.
"Clients access the best investment products on the national market, but through dedicated local financial advisors," says John Sabourin, another cofounder, and director of Selectpath's Financial Services.
In a pool of winners that's dominated by companies from major metropolitan areas, Selectpath is one of a handful of winners from smaller business centres.
"Our market size lets us provide focused support to clients, which means we can take the time to get to know the company or the individual investor very well before we begin customizing benefit or investment programs," says Hart.
