London International Airport Invests in Enhancement of Main Runway

Paving the way into the future, runway 15-33 re-opens with fresh asphalt, set to last through 2050 and beyond!

LONDON, ON – The London International Airport has invested in a rehabilitation of their main runway. The old runway surface was milled and a fresh layer of new asphalt was laid down. New low energy LED lighting was installed for all of the runway edge lights and approach lights.

London International Airport would like to take a moment to thank our partners Avia NG, and Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. Their hard work and dedication has brought this project to a close on time and on budget.

“We continue to invest in the future of the airport, as we work to build back stronger following very difficult years during the pandemic” said Scott McFadzean, President and CEO of the London International Airport. “We want to thank all of our partners and staff that helped make this project a success.”

Avia NG Airport Consultants CEO, Gene Cabral said “It has been a pleasure working directly with the senior leadership team at the London International Airport over the last year to ensure the success of this challenging project. Keeping the airport operational while reconstructing the primary runway was only possible through close collaboration between the London International Airport team, Avia NG and the contractor, GIP. The team at Avia NG delivered a sustainable airfield design including LED lighting technology, and a construction sequencing plan that delivered the project on time and on budget. Congratulations on this successful outcome for the Airport and the broader London community.”

Wayne Molzan is the Director of Green Infrastructure Partners Inc., he tells us; “From an operational view this project was a success. Throughout the entire project the communication between London International Airport, Avia NG Airport Consultants and GIP Paving was the key to the successful completion of the project. Staging of the different phases was the biggest challenge and open discussions between all stakeholders quickly resolved any issues. Congratulations to all involved in the successful completion of this project.”

Eric Hickey, the Construction Manager of Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. adds; “It was a pleasure to partner with the London International Airport and AviaNG on the rehabilitation of Runway 15-33. A great investment in the future of the airport and the community.”

The new and improved runway is now open and operational.
