London Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council Recognized at Provincial Ceremony

London, ON (February 3, 2012) The Ontario Economic Development Awards took place last night (February 2) at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre in Toronto.   The London Economic Development Corporation and the London Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council (LMIEC) received Top Honour in the category of Workforce Development.

The LMIEC is a collaborative initiative formed to address the importance of integrating international talent to keep pace with an aging workforce.  The LMIEC engages regional business leaders in the value proposition for hiring immigrant talent and utilizing available newcomer recruitment and retention resources.   The LMIEC is employer-led initiative with business leader representation from a broad range of industries to reflect London’s diversified economy.

"I fervently believe that as a business community we need to leverage global talent to ensure we maintain London’s quality of life and economic prosperity," states Gus Kotsiomitis, LMIEC Chairperson and RBC Royal Bank Vice President of Commercial Banking for London/St. Thomas.  “It is a privilege to work with our region’s business community and our valued partners on this important effort including LEDC, WIL Employment Connections and City of London.”

The LEDC’s "Tomorrow in London" video was also ranked number one in the province in the Marketing Using Multimedia category. The video was designed to demonstrate the global reach of innovations and products made in London.

The awards were presented by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO).  EDCO is the country's largest provincial economic development association that offers this program and professional development opportunities throughout the year. EDCO membership is comprised of representatives from both the private and public sectors.
