London offers star treatment to the Canadian rowing team

The Canadian rowing team is enjoying ‘rock star’ treatment in London, Ontario as they train for this year’s world championships in Slovenia and the 2012 London Olympics.

After their morning workout on Lake Fanshawe, the Canadian women’s rowing team has been indulging in the fresh fruit smoothies that await them.

With names that reflect the national training centre’s core values: Relentless Raspberry; Can’t Cleanse My Drive to Win Anti-Oxidant Berry Blend; Gold Medal Mango; and Sprint for It Strawberry, among others, the smoothies ward off fatigue and allow the rowers to make it through three workouts a day.

The Canadian team has another local connection; they row in Hudson Boat Works shells, manufactured here in London.

Founded in 1981, Hudson Boat Works is currently one of the largest rowing manufacturers in North America, and the official boat manufacturer for the Canadian and American National Rowing Teams.

Hudson Boat Works is a world leader in the development of racing hull shapes, carbon composite construction and innovative components specific to the sport of rowing, and has thus experienced a growing international reputation by setting a new standard for rowing shell manufacturing and expanding into key international markets.

Having won 69 medals at the Olympic and World Rowing Championships since 1984, Hudson Boat Works has transformed from a small domestic company to one that is competing on the world stage but still proud to say built in London, Ontario.
