London rolled out the welcome mat once again on October 4 for its seventh annual Newcomer Day, transforming Fanshawe College’s Innovation Village into a lively hub of culture, connection, and celebration. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the space buzzed with energy—filled with music, food, community groups, and hundreds of Londoners eager to say one thing loud and clear: you belong here.
Among the many exhibitors was the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), proudly showcasing the tools that help newcomers turn opportunity into reality. Through London’s job portal network, newcomers (and Londoners alike) can instantly connect with employers and local job postings across Fanshawe College, Western University, and regional boards—all in one place and completely free.
Whether you’re an engineer, healthcare worker, or digital creative, London’s employers are hiring—and the LEDC team was on hand to show how simple it is to take the next step toward a career, a home, and a future here.
This year also marked a major debut: the MyLondon app—a digital guide built for both new and lifelong Londoners. Designed to make city life easier (and more fun), MyLondon helps users explore job opportunities, local events, city services, and neighbourhood highlights—all in one easy-to-use platform.
For newcomers, the app feels like a friendly local showing you around: what’s happening this weekend, where to find community programs, and how to plug into the city’s vibrant network of people and opportunities.
“Newcomer Day is a reminder that London’s strength comes from its people,” said Christine Wilton, Director of Workforce Development at LEDC. By connecting newcomers to local employers, career opportunities, and tools like the MyLondon app, we’re helping build meaningful futures while strengthening the city’s workforce.”
Newcomer Day isn’t just an event—it’s a reflection of London’s values. Partner organizations from Fanshawe College, Western University, and the City of London joined dozens of cultural groups, housing and settlement agencies, and language-learning programs, all working together to make London one of Canada’s most welcoming cities.
Families wandered between booths, kids laughed through performances, and new friendships were sparked over shared stories and snacks. Many visitors left with more than brochures—they left with a sense of belonging.
Newcomer Day is about connection. It’s about showing that London’s strength lies in its diversity, and its warmth lies in the people who choose to call it home.
