It’s not nearly the same as it used to be, but Western Fair officials are offering “a taste” of the iconic London tradition.

With large gatherings limited by pandemic safety protocols and the Agriplex still serving as a COVID-19 mass vaccination centre, the Western Fair was cancelled in June for a second year. The fair was scheduled to run Sept. 10-19.

In its place, Western Fair District is offeriing a Taste of the Western Fair for four weeks in September featuring special guests, entertainment, mini-horses and music, spokesperson Greg Blanchard said.

A Taste of Westen Fair piggybacks on Park It at the Market, an outdoor market with vendors and food trucks in Queens Park next to Western Fair’s Market that runs during the summer and into September.

“We plan to enhance that outdoor experience by adding A Taste of the Western Fair to a few evenings throughout the month,” Blanchard said.

A Taste of Western Fair launched Wednesday with a Super Kruise Night featuring more than 300 vehicles. Singers Warren Hargraves and Sarina Haggerty perform Thursday for Country Night.

Events are planned for the next three weeks on Sept. 15 and 16, 22 and 23, 29 and 30.

Visitors also can stock on up fair souvenirs and fair food boxes filled with fair-themed treats.
