Eager job seekers poured into White Oaks Mall on April 15 for the London & Area Works Job Fair, a major hiring event hosted annually by the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and its strategic partners like London Regional Employment Services and White Oaks Mall.
This spring’s fair was a resounding success: over 3,000 local job seekers attended, touring roughly 45 booths staffed by employers with more than 1,000 job openings on display.
LEDC has been hosting this in-person career fair for many years, and its mission remains important. For many companies, access to qualified workers is the single biggest factor in their ability to grow, and events like this are essential to sustaining that growth and keeping London’s economy moving forward.
“Job fairs play a steady, important role in building a resilient workforce,” says Christine Wilton, director of workforce development at LEDC. “There’s power in bringing together so many job seekers and employers in one place, it creates real momentum. These events help people take meaningful steps in their careers and give employers access to local talent they might not reach otherwise.”
The job fair brought together employers from a wide range of sectors, including health care, manufacturing, tech and the nonprofit sector. They offered everything from entry-level roles to specialized, advanced careers. The variety of opportunities presented at the fair directly reflected London’s diverse and evolving job market, giving job seekers a chance to connect with employers across many fields.
Job seekers gained valuable face-to-face time with employers, made new connections and left with clearer next steps in their career journey. Employers reported steady interest from candidates across a wide range of industries. The fair also featured support services to help attendees move forward – from career counsellors to training providers, and LEDC’s own team members guiding attendees through their next steps. Beyond the event, resources like LEDC’s sector-specific job boards, London Regional Employment Services and self-service tools at the Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning Board continue to support Londoners in their job search year-round.
Missed the fair? Don't worry. LEDC will be hosting a virtual fair this fall, offering job seekers another opportunity to explore careers in London’s fastest-growing industries. It also provides a valuable chance for employers to reach a broader talent pool and fill critical roles across a range of sectors.
