St. Joseph’s receives Canada’s first PET/MRI scanner

The new hybrid scanner arrives on Tuesday, Feb. 7

 

LONDON, Ontario – Media are invited to view the crane lift and installation of Canada’s first whole-body PET/MRI on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at St.

Joseph’s Hospital, part of St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

 

The new hybrid imaging scanner, which combines magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), is an exciting acquisition of the Imaging Program of Lawson Health Research Institute. The 10-tonne state-of-the-art piece of equipment, which will be used by researchers to improve diagnosis and treatment of major health challenges such as cardiovascular disease, neurological diseases, mental illness, and cancer, is being lifted by crane and lowered into its new home on Tuesday afternoon.
