TechAlliance and UnLondon join forces to launch StartUpCamp London

For Immediate Release – LONDON, ON
January 5, 2011

January 13, 2011 will mark the inaugural StartUpCamp London, a project partnering TechAlliance and UnLondon with the support of NRC-IRAP. StartUp Camp brings entrepreneurially-minded people together to share and build technology-related business ideas. This opening event will be held Thursday, January 13 at the Convergence Centre at the University of Western Ontario Research Park. Start time is 5:30 and admission is free.

This high-energy event will be run in the unconference format where attendees will determine much of the content. Entrepreneurs seeking feedback on their start-up or start-up idea can sign up to make a 30 second presentation after which a vote will be held, with selected pitches moving on to present their full concept and receiving feedback from their peers in attendance.

Participants will also be able to take in invited speakers with start-up experience. Invited speakers include Peter Evans, senior advisor at MaRS in Toronto who has worked with dozens of successful start-ups in software, internet services and online media. A panel discussion will also be held including local business founders Jaafer Haidar (Sensidea), David Ciccarelli (Voices.com) and Ashraf Ghadban (Akira Systems).

"A StartUpCamp in London has been something I've wanted to see since making a few trips to Waterloo, notes Bill Deys.  “It's exciting to help bring a fresh style of collaboration to the StartUp community in a way that has not existed in London."

StartUpCamp London will be similar to popular events that have been held in Toronto (DemoCamp), Montreal, Waterloo (StartUpCamp Waterloo) and around the world and will give tech start-up founders (existing and prospective) an opportunity to share ideas, receive feedback and to interact with others from London’s start-up community.

Media Inquiries: For further information about StartUpCamp, please contact Bill Deys bill@unlondon.caor Matt Quin, Director- Communications and Engagement, TechAlliance, 519-858-5082, matt.quin@techalliance.ca.
