Two London Women Receive National Award

London, ON - April 10, 2018 - Canadian Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) the London chapter, is thrilled to announce that two local women will be receiving awards at the WCT Annual Convention in Ottawa, Champions of Change: Unite to Close the Gender Gap, on April 16, 2018.

Laurie Hause, the Board Chair for the London chapter of the national organization, will be receiving the Canadian Women in Communications and Technology Leadership Excellence WCT Leader Award. She is the Chief Information Officer and Director of Marketing at McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP.

The WCT Leader Award is to recognize the dedication and contribution of a leader of a local chapter in helping shape the experience of other women in the fields of Technology and Communications through the work of the local chapter and made exceptional personal contributions to WCT. Hause has been a board member for over 7 years, has served both as a mentor to several women in the London area and as a participant in the Protégé Project within WCT.

Hause has been a trailblazer when it comes to technology and communications. In the year 2000, she became one of the first females in the legal field to hold the unique position of both Director of Technology and Director of Marketing, well before the explosive growth of the digital technology roles we see today.  In 2011, Hause worked on an award winning project that won the Best Social Media Campaign in the legal field with the Internet Advertising Awards (Web Marketing Association. She was recognized by the International Legal Technology Association with the Professional Services Champion Award in 2012 for innovative work done in the social media arena in support of the practice of law.

Fatima Khalid will receive the Women in Communications and Technology Leadership Excellence Rising Star Award. Khalid is a developer with Digital Echidna here in London. According to Digital Echidna’s official announcement, Khalid has been active in the Drupal community, sitting on the Drupal Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. She has also been honoured with a DrupalCon scholarship twice (2017, 2018). Khalid has been a strong advocate for Civic Technology working with a volunteer organization in Boston and then transferring those volunteer skills and experiences to London's fledgeling CivicTech startup.

The Rising Star Award recognizes a young person whose talent and leadership abilities are evident early in their career. They are quick off the mark and setting a new pace, influencing thought and charting new directions in their industries and organizations.
