The core facilities include shell and air set. Melting Facilities: Wells Foundry has a 4000 lb. coreless induction furnace from which the company pours a metallurgical grade of: grey iron in ASTM A 48 class 30, 40 and 50; and ductile iron ASTM A 536 class 65-45-12 and 80-55-06. Other custom grades of iron are poured with inoculants of nickel, chrome, copper and molybdenum. Quality Control: 1. In-house: The company has a spectrometer capable of analyzing 18 chemicals to .001 percent. A record of each pour is retained. Brinell hardness is routinely done. Castings are cleaned in a tumblast wheelabrater and visually inspected in 3 areas before shipment. 2. Sublet: Test bars are sent to laboratories where a mechanical test is performed to verify the iron meets the ASTM specifications.
